Sebastien Boko
Benin
Sebastien Boko, born in 1984 in Benin, is a self-taught artist who has earned recognition through his talent and dedication to his craft. Growing up in Agonli Covè, he was introduced to the art of sculpture by his father, a skilled artisan, laying the foundation for his artistic journey. Drawing inspiration from the rich imagery and symbolism of Benin's culture, particularly from Gèlèdé traditions, Boko seeks to honour his heritage while pushing artistic boundaries. Each sculpture he creates serves as a testament to this ethos, blending raw materials with recycled everyday objects like car plates, forks and motorbike parts. Through his art, he invites viewers into a dialogue that celebrates the essence of Benin's cultural heritage while embracing the creativity of the contemporary world.
