The Residency

The Bantaba Residency is a project in development near Rome. It is being built to give artists working with reclaimed material the space, the material supply and the technical support to make work at a scale most studios cannot.

The residency is not yet operating. Everything described on this page is our plan for it, not a description of facilities currently in use. We will publish dates, costs and application terms before opening applications.

Planned duration4 months per cohort
Planned intake12 international artists per year
Planned facilitiesWorkshop spaces, gallery, living quarters
Planned materialsAccess to a sorted material stream
Planned supportTechnical assistance, exhibition, catalogue
The process

From industrial
remnant to
cultural artifact

The residency is designed to place artists alongside the material stream itself — observing, selecting and working with material as it arrives, rather than receiving it pre-sorted and stripped of its history.

Each cohort is intended to close with a public exhibition and catalogue, with every work documented for material provenance and issued a certificate.
